The district’s Sunnyhill Restoration Area will host wounded veterans in an Operation Outdoor Freedom guided deer hunt Nov. 5–7. A portion of the property, located in Marion County, will close for the event.

The district is hosting the Gainesville chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for its annual youth and women’s deer hunts Nov. 8–10 and Dec. 6–8 on portions of the Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve and the Newnans Lake Conservation Area in Alachua County.

Two agricultural projects to share nearly $473,000 to reduce nutrient loading, water use

The district is asking homeowners across its 18-county region help save a billion gallons of water this winter by joining in the annual statewide “Skip a Week” campaign. During the cooler months of December, January and February, lawns and landscapes typically need less water.

Some trails temporarily closed today during prescribed fire at Econlockhatchee Sandhills Conservation Area

The district is conducting an 80-acre prescribed burn Tuesday within the Econlockhatchee Sandhills Conservation Area near the trailhead, north of Lake Pickett Road, in Orange County. Some trails may be temporarily closed during this time to ensure public safety. The purpose of the burn is to maintain fire-dependent ecosystems.
