MAITLAND, Fla., Jan. 25, 2017 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 209-acre prescribed burn today at the Orange Creek Restoration Area in Marion County, immediately north of the parking area on County Road 318. During the burn, parking and trail access will be closed at this location, but visitors can access the property at the S.E. 219 Avenue trailhead. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuel accumulations and the maintenance of fire-dependent ecosystems. PALATKA, Fla., Feb. 14, 2017 -- Water use from approximately 96 percent of permitted groundwater allocations across 18 counties is measured and reported to the St. Johns River Water Management District and verified by state-of-the-art science. District staff presented an overview of the district's Consumptive Use Permitting (CUP) program and methodologies used to estimate the total water use within the district at Tuesday's board meeting, the first of a series of informational presentations to correct recent published inaccuracies.
