Board approves ranking of REDI community projects to share $3.5 million
PALATKA, Fla., Dec. 12, 2017 — The St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board on Tuesday approved the ranking of projects to share in up to $3.5 million in cost-share funds to benefit water resources in Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) communities and for projects that use innovative technology to provide data supporting future permitting and full-scale implementation of alternative water supplies.
“By providing financial assistance to REDI communities, the district enables communities to pursue projects they would have otherwise been unable to do,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “I’m looking forward to moving ahead on seven great projects that will help improve and protect water resources in our communities.”
The district received 17 project applications, all from REDI communities. Ten applications met program criteria; of those, seven projects were selected to receive funding. Projects benefit one or more of the district’s core missions of water supply, water quality, natural systems restoration or flood protection.
