Technical meeting to discuss springs science set for Sept. 8 (postponed)

This meeting has been postponed due to the potential impact to Florida of Hurricane Irma.

PALATKA, Fla., Sept. 1, 2017 — Scientists and engineers from the St. Johns River Water Management District and the University of Florida will hold a technical meeting Sept. 8 at Austin Cary Forest in Gainesville to share the scientific findings of the Collaborative Research Initiative on Sustainability and Protection of Springs (CRISPS). This meeting will focus on the results of the research efforts of six collaborative workgroups over the past three years.

This three-year investigation has helped develop the scientific foundation needed to identify the most cost-effective implementation projects and programs to protect and restore Florida’s springs and associated ecosystems. The team of scientists and engineers responsible for this work includes experts on groundwater hydrology, surface water hydrology, nitrogen biogeochemistry, hydrodynamics and hydraulics, physicochemistry and biology.
