Annual rainfall is above average districtwide

PALATKA, Fla., Nov. 14, 2017 — October’s rainfall amounts were dominated by the heavy nor’easter rain event at the beginning of the month, leaving the 12-month rainfall total for the St. Johns River Water Management District 4.4 inches above average.

When looking at annual rainfall totals, northern Putnam and southern Duval counties remain well above average. A full report outlining hydrological conditions was presented at the district’s November Governing Board meeting.

• The highest rainfall totals for October were in coastal areas, including Brevard, Flagler, St. Johns and Indian River counties.
• In north Florida, Flagler County received 9.06 inches of rain, which is 4.82 inches above average. St. Johns County received 8.15 inches, which is 3.75 above average. Rainfall was below average in Nassau, Baker and Alachua counties.
• In central Florida, Seminole, Lake and Orange counties all experienced below-average rainfall for the month. Seminole received 3.45 inches (0.51 inches below average), Lake received 2.58 inches (0.53 inches below average), and Orange received 3.33 inches of rain (0.61 inches below average).
• Rainfall in Brevard County was the highest in the district at 9.92 inches and nearly 5 inches above average for the month.
