Update: Wildfire on district property
PALM BAY, Fla., June 26, 2017 — A wildfire is burning on a district property west of Interstate 95 and south of State Road 520 in Brevard County. Approximately 800 acres burned Monday evening. District staff plan to burn out the entire 5,000-acre property on Tuesday morning.
Update as of June 26 at 8 p.m.:
The district is responding to wildfire reported at about 4 p.m. on the River Lakes Conservation Area. Approximately 800 acres have burned so far as a result of a lightning strike. District staff plan to burn out the entire 5,000-acre property on Tuesday morning, using an aerial helitorch, an engine and two airboats. Also assisting will be Brevard County Fire and Rescue with brush trucks and Florida Forest Service with a brush truck.
