Active wildfire in Brevard County

PALATKA, Fla., June 26, 2017 — A wildfire has been reported at River Lakes 8, a St. Johns River Water Management District property south of State Road 520 and west of Interstate 95. The blaze was started by a lightning strike.

Due to the remote, marshy location of the fire, district land managers are monitoring the 100-acre blaze and allowing it to burn out on its own. District officials have also contacted the Florida Highway Patrol to post lighted signs along Interstate 95 to warn motorists of potentially poor visibility due to smoke.

At this time no roads have been closed due to the wildfire.
