- District releases new Bronze retrofit criteria — The District introduced the new Bronze tier to its Florida Water StarSM program on Nov. 18 to provide existing homeowners with water-conserving opportunities. Criteria for certification focus on efficiency and considers cost-effectiveness for the homeowner. Learn more in our Florida Water StarSM pages.
- New cost-share program announced — Conserving water resources is not only vital to help meet future water supply needs; it’s the right thing to do. To encourage more widespread water conservation, the District is seeking participation from stakeholders who play key roles in promoting resource preservation through new methods and technology. Learn about the District’s new Water Conservation Cost–Share Program.
- Fall edition of the Indian River Lagoon Update — Work plan sets the schedule for projects in 2010, federal “recovery act” funding provided for lagoon work and management plans updated for aquatic preserves. Read this and more in the latest lagoon newsletter.
- WaterWatch gives overview of new mapping data, irrigation restrictions — New digital mapping data for about two-thirds of the counties in the St. Johns River Water Management District will soon be available online. The November edition of WaterWatch also includes an update on seasonal watering restrictions that took effect on Nov. 1.
- Tools available to assist teachers — Free curricula and materials developed by the St. Johns River Water Management District give teachers additional tools to teach Florida’s next generation about water issues and environmental stewardship. - District lands offer varied opportunities for year-round recreation — Lands purchased by the District for water resource protection offer recreational opportunities for the public. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping and fishing are among the activities that can be enjoyed on some 700,000 acres of District lands. Learn more in StreamLines online.
- Meetings offer public participation in water supply planning efforts — Ongoing meetings throughout the District allow the public to become involved in identifying water supply issues and to provide input on solutions. - Focus areas identified in District’s 2009–2010 budget — The new fiscal year budget of the St. Johns River Water Management District includes a greater emphasis on water conservation, continuing study on potential effects of river water withdrawals, control of invasive plant species and completion of several wetlands restoration projects.
