Take the
Water Conservation Challenge

An entire school can participate, or individual classrooms.
Earn recognition as a guardian of Florida’s water resources.

Accept the challenge.

The challenge:
  1. Teachers and students decide which water conservation behaviors they want to adopt, and sign a conservation pledge card.
  2. Schools or classrooms conduct at least one in-school activity and one outreach activity of their choosing to explore water conservation.
    For example:
    • Create water conservation posters, and display them around the school.
    • Decorate conservation messages on local grocery store bags, return them for customers to use and/or display in local libraries and businesses.
    • Hold a water walk for students who ask others to sign the water conservation pledge.
    • Conduct a reading and writing exercise around water conservation.
    • Provide water conservation tips in the school’s newsletter or morning announcements.
    • Have each student complete the interactive home water use survey. Then complete the survey again after 30 days of applying conservation changes.
    • Establish in-school conservation goals and conduct water audits. Make necessary repairs to leaks, drips, faucets, restrooms, and document repairs.
    • Create posters, placemats or signs for a local restaurant to display.
    • Plant a waterwise landscape at school or a local business using the waterwise plant database.
    • Ask a local radio station to interview students about water conservation.
    • Explore and implement The Great Water OdysseySM program.
Support provided:
  1. Pledge card templates online (some stock available on a first-come first-served basis).
  2. Certificates of participation recognizing the school or classroom.
  3. Online activity ideas.
  4. Recognition on the St. Johns River Water Management District’s website.
